Understand

The education lump sum ("Mammerent")

A monthly benefit for parents who raised their children without the benefit of "baby-years".

What is it?

The education lump sum is an amount paid each month to the parent (or the person who acted as one) who devoted themselves primarily to raising their children. It is a CASH benefit, distinct from the "baby-years", which instead add insurance periods to your career.

Amount and conditions

86,54 € per month and per child (amount set by the law of 28 juin 2002, unchanged since). You must have reached 65 ans and have resided in Luxembourg at the child's birth or adoption (except under EU coordination / an agreement).

For whom? The link with baby-years

The lump sum is intended for parents who do NOT benefit from baby-years for the child concerned — typically older generations, whose children were raised before baby-years became widespread (children born before 1988, with no activity or replacement income at the time). If your pension already includes baby-years for that child, the lump sum is not paid separately.

Where to apply

The lump sum is managed and paid by the Fonds national de solidarité (FNS), not by the CNAP. The application is made to the FNS (one birth certificate per child + a bank account details form). It is taxable like a pension.
