Invalidity pension
If an illness or accident permanently prevents you from working before age 65, the general scheme may pay an invalidity pension.
The conditions (art. 187 CSS)
You must be under 65 and prove at least 12 months of insurance during the 36 months preceding the invalidity. Invalidity is assessed by the Social Security Medical Board: being unable to carry out your last occupation or any other activity matching your capabilities.
How it is calculated (art. 216 CSS)
The invalidity pension takes up the basic pension accrued over your career, increased by special "prospective" increments that account for the years you could have contributed up to retirement age. The estimator below puts a figure on it.
What happens next?
Your invalidity status may be reassessed; any return to work beyond an insignificant income (one third of the social minimum wage) must be declared and may lead to withdrawal of the pension.
